Waterfront Toronto Mandate Officially Extended
December 12, 2025, TORONTO, ON – Waterfront Toronto’s mandate has been officially extended to 2035, with an option to extend up to an additional five years to 2040.
In January 2025, Government of Canada, the Government of Ontario and the City of Toronto announced a $975 million joint investment in the next phase of waterfront revitalization. This investment enables the creation of over 14,000 new homes, parks, public realm and new destinations on the waterfront.
On November 27, Royal Assent was given to an amendment passed by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario extending Waterfront Toronto’s mandate to coincide with the planned next phase of work. The amendment to the Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation Act, 2002 was passed following confirmed support from the Government of Canada and the City of Toronto. This amendment identifies the corporation’s new wind-up date as May 15, 2035, allowing Waterfront Toronto to deliver on this next phase of waterfront revitalization; with an option to extend up to an additional five years to May 15, 2040.
