The Opportunity: Senior Project Manager, Design (Parks and Public Realm)
Waterfront Toronto is seeking a Senior Project Manager, Design (Parks and Public Realm) to join our Planning and Design team. The Senior Project Manager will support the day-to-day coordination of the design of parks and public realm projects, ensuring design meets Waterfront Toronto’s objectives for Design Excellence, Accessibility, Quality of Place, and the Corporation's Sustainability Framework.
This role is part of a visionary team shaping Ookwemin Minising into a next-generation urban community—inclusive, sustainable, and walkable. Building on the success of Biidaasige Park, the transformation will feature a network of resilient, high-quality parks and public spaces defined by design excellence and comfortable microclimates, setting a new standard for public realm development on Toronto’s waterfront.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, design, and construction of public realm projects, ensuring alignment with Waterfront Toronto’s standards for excellence and sustainability.
- Manage design consultants and oversee project deliverables, regulatory compliance, and environmental approvals.
- Secure necessary permits and approvals from municipal, provincial, and federal authorities.
- Develop and monitor project budgets, schedules, and expenditures to meet funding and timeline requirements.
- Administer procurement processes, including drafting RFPs, evaluating proposals, and managing consultant contracts.
- Support stakeholder engagement and communication strategies to foster transparency and collaboration.
- Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, community groups, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee technical studies related to environmental, transportation, accessibility, and sustainability aspects.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to guide creative direction, escalate critical issues, and resolve design challenges.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and ensure timely follow-up on action items.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree in Landscape Architecture or a related field, such as Urban Design or Architecture.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in complex urban infrastructure or public realm projects.
- Strong expertise in design and construction administration, including contract management and quality assurance.
- Proven project management, coordination, and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including experience facilitating meetings and presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success in building relationships with diverse stakeholders, including City of Toronto staff, community organizations, and Indigenous communities.

Other Considerations:
During this time, Waterfront Toronto is operating in a hybrid work environment. Employees are currently required to work in our office three days per week and have the option to work remotely for the remainder of the week. This is subject to change by the Corporation.
