The Opportunity: Summer Intern, Communications & Public Engagement

Waterfront Toronto is seeking a Summer Intern, Communications & Public Engagement to help support public-facing programs, events, and key milestone moments across the waterfront. Working as part of the Communications & Public Engagement team, this role will support planning and delivery of pop-ups, tours, events, and media activities that raise awareness and connect the public with major revitalization projects across the waterfront. To be considered for this role, candidates must be currently enrolled in, or have recently completed, a post-secondary program.
 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Support internal communications for pop-ups, tours, and events, including staff volunteer orientation and coordination.  
  • As a member of the team delivering summer events, support event logistics, including set-up, takedown, venue coordination, and on-site support. 
  • Support the development of materials for events and communications campaigns, including signage, blogs, multimedia assets, and social media content. 
  • Assist with event promotion across digital channels. 
  • Maintain data logs to track event attendance, engagement, and outcomes.  
  • Support media-related activities, including research, media list management, and assistance with media events. 
  • Support media events related to waterfront revitalization initiatives. 
  • Other tasks as assigned.
     

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a post-secondary program in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Event Planning, or related post-secondary program.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail. 
  • Comfortable interacting with the public and working in team-based environments. 
  • Demonstrated interest in communications, public engagement, and city-building initiatives. 
  • Social media savvy, with the ability to support content creation and engagement across digital platforms.
  • Experience planning and executing events considered an asset.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or video editing tools considered an asset. 
     

Salary:  

$22.00 per hour. 
 

Other Considerations: 

During this time, Waterfront Toronto is operating in a hybrid work environment. Employees are currently required to work in our office three days per week and have the option to work remotely for the remainder of the week. This is subject to change by the Corporation.
