The Opportunity: Senior Manager, Corporate Communications

Waterfront Toronto is seeking a Senior Manager, Corporate Communications to step into a newly created leadership role within the Strategic Communications & Public Engagement team. This role provides dedicated leadership for internal communications and employee engagement, digital communications, and external corporate communications, including executive communications, corporate publications, thought leadership and brand stewardship. Reporting to the SVP, Strategic Communications & Public Engagement, the Senior Manager will directly oversee two direct reports and help strengthen organizational alignment, visibility and reputation by leading a more coordinated, strategic and sustainable approach to corporate communications across the organization.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership across internal communications and employee engagement, digital communications, and external corporate communications within the Strategic Communications & Public Engagement team.
  • Develop integrated communications strategies and plans that align messaging, channels, timing and tactics to support Waterfront Toronto’s corporate priorities, projects and reputation objectives.
  • Develop and implement an intentional internal communications and employee engagement strategy that strengthens alignment, confidence and connection across the organization.
  • Partner with HR, IT, Finance and other internal teams to deliver internal communications, staff engagement initiatives, leadership communications, change management support, and new internal platforms and channels, including the corporate intranet and internal newsletter.
  • Lead digital communications across owned channels, including the website, intranet and newsletters, with deep expertise in channel strategy, content leadership, measurement and optimization, ensuring channels are current, coordinated, accessible, insight-driven and aligned with Waterfront Toronto’s priorities and brand.
  • Lead social media strategy and oversee social media content creation, channel planning, publishing, community management and performance measurement to strengthen audience engagement and support Waterfront Toronto’s priorities, campaigns and brand.
  • Develop and execute external corporate communications strategies with strong expertise in corporate messaging, reputation management and organizational storytelling to strengthen understanding of Waterfront Toronto’s mandate, role and impact.
  • Support executive communications, thought leadership and corporate media relations, identifying opportunities to elevate Waterfront Toronto’s voice in public, sector and city-building conversations.
  • Help define and steward a clear corporate voice, tone and brand expression across channels and initiatives, supported by practical tools, templates and guidance.
  • Support issues readiness across corporate and digital channels, including community management and moderation, with the ability to respond effectively when timely action is required.
  • Provide strategic counsel to senior leaders on messaging, positioning, reputational considerations and communications approaches in a complex, high-visibility environment.
  • Lead, coach and develop two direct reports, setting clear priorities, providing day-to-day guidance and feedback, and building a high-performing team culture with strong accountability, collaboration and growth.
  • Track performance, measure results and use insights to continuously improve corporate, internal and digital communications activities, and make independent decisions on day-to-day messaging, channel execution, content prioritization and response approaches within established organizational direction.

 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, public affairs or a related field.
  • Professional accreditation or related training in communications, public relations, digital communications or change management is considered an asset.
  • Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience in corporate communications, internal communications, employee engagement, public affairs, media relations or digital communications.
  • Demonstrated experience leading communications strategies in complex, multi-stakeholder and high-profile environments, with significant responsibility across internal communications and employee engagement, digital communications, and external corporate communications.
  • A collaborative people leader with demonstrated experience leading a team 
  • Experience in government, agency, broader public sector or similarly complex environments is a strong asset. 
  • A strategic and confident communications leader who can provide strong direction in a newly created role while connecting day-to-day execution with broader organizational goals.
  • A strong writer, editor and advisor with excellent judgment and the ability to operate effectively in a high-profile, multi-partner environment.
  • Comfortable working across internal and external communications, with the range to lead digital strategy, employee engagement, executive communications and corporate reputation initiatives.

 

Salary: 

$108,123 – $125,000 annual base salary. This role is eligible for variable compensation up to 15% of base salary.

*This represents the expected hiring range and does not represent the full pay range for this position. The salary offered may be higher than the posted range depending on several factors such as relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.

Work Location:


During this time, Waterfront Toronto is operating in a hybrid work environment. Employees are currently required to work in our office three days per week and have the option to work remotely for the remainder of the week. This is subject to change by the Corporation.
