The Opportunity: Project Manager, Strategic Development

Waterfront Toronto is seeking a Project Manager, Strategic Development to join our Strategic Policy and Innovation Department. This department leads and supports a range of projects which are critical to the core mandate of Waterfront Toronto, including the advancement of strategic initiatives that enhance the economic, social, and cultural value of Toronto’s waterfront.  Current projects the Strategic Policy and Innovation Department are helping to lead include, but are not limited to:
 

  • A government funded early activation and placemaking strategy for Ookwemin Minising
  • A waterfront destination strategy
  • Exploring innovative non-residential use strategies
  • The 10-year strategic plan for the corporation


This role is responsible for supporting and managing the day-to-day delivery of strategic initiatives, which can range from strategy development, analysis and reporting to procurements and project implementation. 


The position will help ensure projects are delivered in alignment with Waterfront Toronto’s core commitments to Accessibility and Inclusion, Design Excellence, Quality of Place, Innovation, and the principles outlined in the Sustainability Framework.
 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex, multifaceted initiatives involving diverse stakeholders and competing interests to deliver projects that activate Toronto’s waterfront, attract visitors, and position the area as a premier destination for residents and visitors, and advance broader strategic priorities of waterfront revitalization.
  • •Contribute strategic and critical thinking to advancing strategic initiatives.
  • •Prepare briefing materials and updates for senior management and tri-government partners.
  • •Maintain accurate meeting records and ensure follow-up on action items from internal project meetings and external working groups supporting strategic projects.
  • •Foster strong cross-functional collaboration to manage and deliver strategic projects and initiatives effectively and efficiently.
  • •Draft content for Requests for Proposals, evaluates submissions, participates in procurement decisions, monitors contract compliance, and authorizes invoice payments.
  • •Develop or support the creation of consultation and communication strategies that ensure open, transparent engagement between Waterfront Toronto, stakeholders and business partners.
  • •Build and sustain strong relationships with appropriate stakeholders, government agencies, and the public to foster collaboration, gain consensus on proposed projects, and resolve critical issues effectively. 

     

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in business, economics, political science, urban planning/innovation, public policy/administration, project management, or real estate.
  • • Strong organizational, coordination, and project management expertise.
  • • Strategic and critical thinking with the ability to lead both planning and execution.
  • • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • • Knowledge of City building and urban revitalization (Canada and internationally); activation and placemaking
  • • Experience with Destination development and global precincts.
  • • Basic knowledge of Arts/culture, festivals/events, and sports/recreation industries.
  • • Advanced proficiency in MS Project, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Copilot.
  • • Skilled in leveraging AI tools for research and professional material development.

Other Considerations:

During this time, Waterfront Toronto is operating in a hybrid work environment. Employees are currently required to work in our office three days per week and have the option to work remotely for the remainder of the week. This is subject to change by the Corporation.
