Descriptive Transcript: The Next Wave of Housing in Toronto
This is a descriptive transcript for our YouTube Video: The Next Wave of Housing in Toronto
[DESCRIPTION:] Kevin Sullivan, Chair of Waterfront Toronto’s Board of Directors, appears on screen with an arrow pointing toward him. Standing beside him is Todd McCarthy, Ontario’s Acting Minister of Infrastructure. They are in an active construction zone with the Toronto skyline in the background, both wearing construction vests and hard hats.
[AUDIO:]
Hi, I'm Kevin Sullivan, Chair of Waterfront Toronto's Board of Directors.
And I'm Todd McCarthy, Ontario's Acting Minister of Infrastructure.
[DESCRIPTION:] The shot zooms out to a wider view as another arrow appears, pointing to the CN Tower. A second arrow points to the ground, indicating that they are standing on Ookwemin Minising.
[AUDIO:]
And we're here to talk about the next wave of housing in Toronto, which starts right here in the Port Lands on the new island we call Ookwemin Minising.
[DESCRIPTION:] The shot remains wide before zooming in on the two speakers from the right.
[AUDIO:]
We're standing in a future community where we have a proposal to build approximately 700 new homes. This is the first of many neighbourhoods to be built on Toronto’s revitalized waterfront, made possible through the joint efforts of the Ontario government, our federal partners, and the City of Toronto.
[DESCRIPTION:] The video transitions to an aerial view, showing more people wearing construction vests and hard hats, along with the large area where they are standing. Dirt mounds indicate that they are on an active construction site east of downtown Toronto. As they continue speaking, the camera pulls back further to show the precise location where the neighbourhood will be built. The footage transitions from the current site to a rendering of the completed island. After a brief return to the speakers, the video cuts to aerial footage of Biidaasige Park, featuring the river, playground, and bridges. The shot then returns to the speakers standing beside a dirt mound.
[AUDIO:]
And right here is where those first homes will be built. This will become a neighbourhood where everyone can live and thrive—an incredible mix of nature and culture, all connected by new public transit. When the first residents move in, they will be right next to Biidaasige Park, the largest park to open in Toronto in a generation.
[DESCRIPTION:] The speakers continue standing within the construction site as the camera pans through various angles, from left to right, and zooms out to reveal the Toronto skyline in the background.
[AUDIO:]
This is the first step in our joint effort to build a new community that will deliver more than 14,000 new homes and support approximately 100,000 jobs, representing one of North America's most ambitious revitalization projects. It would not be possible without the shared commitment of the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, and the City of Toronto.
[DESCRIPTION:] The shot changes to slow-motion footage of three people arriving at the construction site and greeting others with handshakes as they are provided with construction vests and hard hats. The video then returns to Kevin Sullivan and Todd McCarthy standing beside a dirt mound with the Toronto skyline in the background. Additional footage shows them putting on their safety equipment and walking up a dirt hill toward the future site of the Ookwemin Minising neighbourhood.
[AUDIO:]
Together, our governments are making strategic investments to create a clear path toward building new homes with speed and certainty, helping bring to life a vibrant new waterfront community.
[DESCRIPTION:] End slate appears.
