Construction Notice #10: In-Water Pipes in East Bayfront
Construction Notice
Upcoming Work at the In-Water Pipes Along Water’s Edge Promenade
Starting Monday, November 9, Waterfront Toronto will carry out minor deficiencies work on the in-water pipes along the Water’s Edge Promenade. The work includes installing a maintenance ledge and adjustable weirs.
Work is expected to take approximately two weeks, between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. All work will take place from a barge, with no work on land. The Water’s Edge Promenade will remain open, and surrounding areas will not be affected. Some construction noise may be heard while equipment is in use.
For public safety and to safeguard this critical infrastructure, fencing will remain in place until funding is identified to complete the future boardwalk extension over the in-water pipes.
Background
The in-water pipes installed adjacent to the Water’s Edge Promenade at the foot of Sherbourne Common represent the final component of the expanded stormwater management system serving Dockside, East Bayfront, the West Don Lands, and future development areas in the North Keating Channel and Port Lands precincts. These pipes are essential for conveying stormwater to the Cherry Street Stormwater Management Facility, where it will be treated to remove pollutants before flowing into Lake Ontario.
