Waterfront Toronto receives accolades for its innovation and leadership in sustainability

Waterfront Toronto’s projects and sustainability initiatives have recently been honoured with three prestigious sustainability awards. The Canada Green Building CouncilBLOOM and Clean50 have all recognized Waterfront Toronto for various aspects of its leadership and innovation in the area of sustainability.

The Sherbourne Common Pavilion – a striking zinc-clad structure – recently received the 2013 Innovation in LEED Award from the Greater Toronto Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council. The Pavilion, a LEED Gold certified building, houses the equipment for the park’s integrated UV facility and is redefining how we design and build infrastructure.

Waterfront Toronto’s first Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Report, released as an online microsite in July of this year, was recently recognized with the BLOOM 2013 Sustainability Leadership Award and as one of Clean50’s Top 15 Projects for 2014.

BLOOM, a leading authority in the area of applied sustainability, recognizes organizations that excel in creating tangible value through their integrated sustainability strategy, decision-making, actions and outcomes. Clean50 awards honour projects that have made the greatest contribution to sustainable development in Canada.

“We are very honoured to receive BLOOM’s Sustainability Leadership Award,” said John Campbell, President and CEO of Waterfront Toronto. “It is recognition that we are delivering on our mandate to encourage market transformation and position the City of Toronto as a world leader in creating sustainable communities.”

Since 2005, Waterfront Toronto has received numerous awards for its sustainability achievements and leadership. Our sustainable development approach is guided by a comprehensive Sustainability Framework, which serves as a roadmap to make certain that consistent principles are woven into every facet of operations and decision making. By employing global best practises, Waterfront Toronto is ensuring the city’s new waterfront communities will protect and enhance our natural environment and establish themselves as global models for sustainability.
