Wende Cartwright, Director

 

Appointed by the City of Toronto in June 2019.

Wende Cartwright is President of Savira Cultural + Capital Projects. She has an extensive background in capital project planning, community development and placemaking for clients across North America. She was project director for the new Globe and Mail Centre from 2011-2017 delivering the state-of-the-art event centre, director for the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad and is currently at the helm of planning significant mixed-use projects in Toronto, Halifax, Nunavut and Boston.

 

Additional capital projects include Royal Conservatory of Music, Koerner Hall, Union Station Revitalization, Boston Symphony Hall, Archdiocese of Toronto St. Michael’s Centre, Global Centre for Pluralism, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and Elgin & Winter Garden Theatres.

 

Wende has been actively involved with many community organizations and initiatives including serving as Co-Chair Royal Ontario Museum ROM Institute of Contemporary Culture; Board Director for Museum of Contemporary Art MOCA, Health Arts Society Ontario and Association of Performing Arts Presenters (Washington DC), Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games Advisory Committee and Partners in Art.

 

Wende studied Political Science & Film at the University of British Columbia, and completed the Rotman School of Management Institute of Corporate Directors ICD.NFP, Executive Leadership, Advanced Financial Literacy and Harvard Business School Smart Cities & Intelligent Buildings Program.

 

In 2015 Wende was named by the Women’s Executive Network (WXN) as one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women. In 2019 she was recognized as an Urban Land Institute Women’s Leadership Initiative Champion.
